The organisation reiterates its call for his immediate and unconditional release.“The authorities have scheduled Hu’s trial for 18 March although no guarantees of fairness or transparency have been given,” the press freedom organisation said. “The recent arrest of one of his friends, lawyer Teng Biao, is an especially disturbing sign. Diplomats and journalists must insist on being free to attend the hearings.”One of Hu’s lawyers, Li Fangping, told the media today that the date for Hu’s trial before the Beijing people’s intermediate court No. 1 was set just one week after the complaint was formally registered with the Beijing prosecutor’s office. The police car that had been following him from his home deliberately drove into the back of his car. As a result, he has been suffering back pains. Li, who is under permanent police surveillance, was kidnapped and beaten on 29 September, and was warned against continuing to support Hu Jia.——————–无国界记者呼吁国际社会动员起来并采取具体行动，以免胡佳被以“煽动颠覆国家政权”的罪名而判刑。 China’s Cyber Censorship Figures Democracies need “reciprocity mechanism” to combat propaganda by authoritarian regimes

Wilson Palacios and Carlo Costly will be crucial for Honduras in the World CupPlaying at the World Cup for only the third time, teamwork and organization will be key for Honduras.Just qualifying for the tournament in Brazil was a massive achievement, but now the focus is on finally winning a match on football’s biggest stage. Here are five players to watch:CARLO COSTLYCarlo Costly is a tall striker who has been unable to find consistency in his club career. He has played in Poland, England, Romania, Mexico, the United States, Greece and China, but returned to Honduras with Real Espana early in 2014.Despite the globe-trotting, Costly has remained a central focus of the Honduran national team since debuting in 2007, although he missed out on the last World Cup because of injury.Costly uses his physical strength and aerial prowess to cause problems for defenders. He holds the ball up for his teammates and is an awkward player to mark. The former Birmingham player scored a famous goal for Honduras in World Cup qualifying, netting a second-half winner at Estadio Azteca to seal victory over Mexico.JERRY BENGTSONJerry Bengtson is Honduras’ other tall, powerful striker. The Costly-Bengtson partnership has the ability to cause problems for group rivals Ecuador, France and Switzerland at the World Cup.The New England Revolution player scored nine goals in 12 games in CONCACAF qualifying and is known for his all-around ability to both play with his back to goal and create opportunities for himself.advertisementBengtson made a name for himself outside of the Americas at the 2012 Olympics, scoring the goal that defeated Spain 1-0 to knock the European nation out of the tournament.EMILIO IZAGUIRRELeft back Emilio Izaguirre plays for Scottish champion Celtic and is one of the only Honduras players – along with Wilson Palacios and Andy Najar – with experience playing in the Champions League. The defender is best known for his forays down the left flank, but his crossing into Costly and Bengtson is one of the most dangerous aspects of the team.Izaguirre has previously been linked with big-name clubs outside Scotland, where he was voted the first division’s 2010 player of the year by his peers.MAYNOR FIGUROAWith more than 100 appearances for the national team and more than 200 Premier League games, Maynor Figueroa is one of Honduras’ most experienced players and is charged with leading the defense at the World Cup.Figueroa plays at left back for Hull, where he moved from Wigan in 2013, but is a central defender for Honduras, partly due to Izaguirre’s quality. He has a knack of scoring spectacular goals, including one in December 2009 from his own half when playing for Wigan.Goalkeeper Noel Valladares is Honduras’ captain, but Figueroa is one of the main leaders in the team.WILSON PALACIOSA combative defensive midfielder, Wilson Palacios’ best moment came at Tottenham when he dominated AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf in the Champions League in 2011.Palacios became Honduras’ most expensive player when Tottenham signed him from Wigan in 2009.The central midfielder has struggled following a move to Stoke in August 2011, failing to break into the first team on a regular basis, although he remains a key figure for Honduras and a leader on the field.Tragedy struck Palacios’ family in 2009 when his younger brother was found dead in Honduras. He had been kidnapped in 2007.
Bayern Munich deny Hummels in talks with Chelsea or Tottenhamby Freddie Taylor10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveChelsea and Tottenham have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Mats Hummels.Bild claimed this week that the Bayern Munich defender’s agent was in London to discuss a January move to the Premier League giants. However, Bayern’s chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has moved swiftly to deny Hummels will depart the Allianz. He said: “We had a conversation with Mats a few days ago and he will play for Bayern Munich in the second half of the season.”The Bundesliga side’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic added: “We talked to Mats, it was a good conversation.”Mats feels very well in Munich, and if a player does not always play, it’s clear that there are discussions.”Mats wanted to talk to us. WASHINGTON – The deficit in the broadest measure of U.S. trade rose to the highest level in more than eight years this spring, reflecting in part a drop in fines and penalties paid by foreign companies. The deficit in the current account increased to $123.1 billion, up 8.5 per cent from an imbalance of $113.5 billion in the first quarter, the Commerce Department reported Tuesday. It was the biggest deficit since a gap of $150 billion in the fourth quarter of 2008.The current account is the most complete measure of trade because it includes not only goods and services but investment flows and other payments between the United States and the world.President Donald Trump has promised to reduce America’s trade deficit, contending it costs U.S. factory jobs. One of the biggest contributing factors to the larger deficit in the April-June quarter was a decline in receipts from foreigners after they had risen sharply in the first quarter. The government attributed the $5.2 billion decrease in receipts of secondary income from foreigners to a decline in fines and penalties paid by foreign companies. That category had risen sharply in the first quarter.Exports of goods and services increased $2.2 billion in the second quarter. Exports are getting a lift from a pickup in global growth and a drop in the value of the U.S. dollar against other currencies. A weaker dollar makes American products more competitive on foreign markets.Imports of goods and services were also up in the second quarter, rising $11.8 billion, reflecting rising domestic demand from stronger U.S. growth. The rise in the current account deficit put the imbalance in the second quarter at a level equivalent to 2.6 per cent of the total economy, as measured by the gross domestic product, up from 2.4 per cent in the first quarter. By comparison, the largest current account deficit in relation to GDP was in the fourth quarter of 2005 when the deficit totalled 6.3 per cent of GDP.Trump says America’s trade deficits have been caused by bad trade deals and abusive practices by China and other U.S. trading partners. He has pledged changes that he says will reduce the deficit and bring back American factory jobs.
NEW YORK — Many companies are purging artificial colours from their foods, but don’t expect your cheeseburgers or cereal to look much different. Colors send important signals about food, and companies aren’t going to stop playing into those perceptions.McDonald’s recently announced it had removed artificial colours from many of its burgers and Kellogg is taking them out cereals. But other foods get colour boosts in ways you may not realize.Egg producers get darker yolks by adjusting chicken feed ingredients, and farmed salmon get their pink from feed additives. Most cheddar cheeses owe their orange colour to a plant extract. And sometimes, consumers aren’t ready to part with colours they like. General Mills brought artificial colours back for a “classic” version of Trix cereal in response to customer demand. The Associated Press

Tzu-Ying, who had retired at the Hong Kong Open last year due to a waist injury, seemed to have recovered well as she went about her job with consummate ease at the Arena Birmingham. Tzu-Ying’s arsenal of strokes was in full display as she rushed to a 11-3 lead. Saina produced two superb drops and won nine of the next 12 points to narrow the equation to 12-14. Tzu-Ying then came out with a flurry of her magical strokes to move to 20-13 and sealed it comfortably. In the second game, Saina enjoyed a five-point cushion at 8-3 in the second game after husband Parupalli Kashyap pleaded her to play disciplined badminton. Some exceptional strokes helped the Taiwanese to gather a few points but Saina ensured a 11-8 advantage at the interval. The Indian tried to keep Tzu-Ying at the backline with her deep tosses but fatigue, perhaps due to the bout of diarrhea ahead of the event, affected her. Tzu-Ying’s deceptive strokes often left Saina wrong-footed as she moved ahead of the Indian to 17-15. Saina made it 19-19 with a successful line call. But two precise returns on the Indian’s backhand ended the match in the Taiwanese favour.
